Port St. Lucie Police Department accepting applications for School Crossing Guards

The Port St. Lucie Police Department is accepting applications for School Crossing Guards!

Throughout the school year, thousands of young residents walk to and from school during the school year, and crossing guards ensure their safe journey. Crossing guards oversee and control traffic flow around schools in the morning and at dismissal.

Crossing guard positions in PSL are part-time, under the direction of the Port St. Lucie Police Department, and starting salaries are $14.50/hour. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, pass a background check, be able to deal with children of all ages, remain calm and decisive in emergencies, and respond to resident inquiries. Those hired will receive training from the Port St. Lucie Police Department.

“Becoming a crossing guard is an excellent opportunity for active retirees looking for part-time work, young people interested in a career in the public safety field, or anyone looking to serve their community,” said Acting Police Chief Richard R. Del Toro, Jr. “Crossing guards are a crucial part of public safety helping to ensure children have a safe passage to school and I thank all of those who are interested in applying to be part of our team.”
