Yesterday I called Geico because and asked them why my car insurance has gone up for a 2004 jeep with me having safe driver no issues no nothing. They said because of all the bad drivers in the area.
What state has the worst insurance rates?
Florida is the most expensive state for car insurance with average auto premiums of $2,560 per year – which is about 23% increase in rates from 2021, according to an Insure.com analysis. Notably, drivers in no-fault states such as Florida and Michigan pay more for auto insurance than drivers in other states.
Florida tops the list of the country’s costliest states for auto premiums, with average annual rates more than half the national average.
So I asked around. This is what people told me.
“they told us it was because of inflation.”
“Very true, all the bad drivers and uninsured and under insurance. And the ambulance chasers, Florida.”
“Also, all the new folks moving here. Population goes up so do your rates. It’s calculated by population in your zip code.”
“Mine went up and they told me because of medical and parts for cars are high.”
“It is how the industry works. ZIP code and claims within determine the risk a carrier is willing to take. Premiums are adjusted accordingly.”
“Blame it on the actuaries who are the bean counters that do the statistical analysis that ultimately results in the rates. They analyze the risk in your area based on the age of the policyholders and the claims they have paid out over the last 12 months and take all that information and come up with premiums based on their level of risk. They have to take in more than they pay out or they won’t stay in business. I had to lower my coverages also and in my case it has to do with everything I mentioned plus getting older the odds increase that I will have an accident.”
“The agent told me Florida was so expensive bc of all of the uninsured drivers … so you are paying for others irresponsibility.”
You get the picture!
My issue is why is my insurance going up if my car is getting older? Should be going down no? What does our credit have to do with it? If people are having difficulty paying their bills why are they being punished? As our counties build build build inviting more people to live here why should we be punished? What can we do about bad drivers? Is this something the police and sheriff can talk about? What can we do about uninsured drivers? Is there some kind of plan? What can “we” do to help control all this? Anything?
We have elected legislators? Are they doing anything to help.
