Martin County Free and Family-Friendly activities for the Holidays

Looking for free and/or family-friendly activities this holiday season? There are many local fun-packed events hosted by the Martin County Library System coming up:

1. Winter Reading Challenge! Kids in Martin County can earn a free Culver’s frozen custard, kids’ meal, and a free book when they read 10 books Nov. 22 – Jan. 3! Books can be logged on the Beanstack Tracker app or on a Culver’s bookmark provided at your local library! Sponsored by the Friends of the Martin County Library System, Inc.

2. Family Gingerbread House Building

Sunday, December 3 | 2pm–4pm

Blake Library:

Drop into the John F. and Rita M. Armstrong Wing, where building materials and decorations will be provided. Supplies for one gingerbread house per family will be provided, while supplies last. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Martin County Library System, Inc.

3. Holiday Concert

Saturday, December 9 | 11am–12:30pm

Saturday, December 9 | 2pm–4pm

Blake Library:

Join us for An Old-Fashioned Christmas, the annual holiday concert of the Stuart Community Concert Band, featuring many of Americans’ favorites including “Sleigh Ride,” “Greensleeves,” “Hallelujah Chorus,” “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” and so much more. Because of the popularity of this event, there will be two performances with limited seating. Free tickets are required and available beginning 4pm Thursday, Nov. 30 in the Blake Library John F. and Rita M. Armstrong Wing and at the Blake Information Desk thereafter. Limit of two tickets per person. Come early as tickets go fast! Doors open at 3:30pm for 4pm distribution.

4. Free holiday photos with the family:

Festive Photo Shoot

Thursday, December 14 | 4pm–5pm

Hoke Library:

Want a festive photo with your family or friends? Stop by the Hoke Library to take a snapshot with your favorite people. Both digital and print options available! The backdrop used will be red with white snowflakes. Props are not provided, but feel free to bring your own. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Martin County Library System, Inc. 5. Holiday Gift Wrap Party

Tuesday, December 19 | 5pm-7pm

Blake Library:

Get into the holiday spirit and come wrap with friends. Bring your own presents, and we’ll provide the wrapping paper, ribbons, and all the trimmings you need to make your gifts look great. Holiday beverages will be provided. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Martin County Library System, Inc. Registration requested. See comment section for link to registration.

6. Sunday Cinema Series

Sunday, December 17 | 2pm–4pm

Blake Library:

A Christmas Story (1hr 39min) [PG] 1983

Nostalgia personified! Bring a light jacket or sweater as the room tends to be chilly. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Martin County Library System, Inc.

6. Holiday glass cups

Tuesday, December 5 | 6pm–7:30pm

Elisabeth Lahti Library:

Get into the holiday spirit by decorating your own glass cup with pre-customized holiday prints! With a wide variety of choices, you will also have one (1) customizable text printed out and cut by our in-house Silhouette Cameo 4! This event is for adults only. 7. Take & Make: Diamond Art Snowmen

Tuesday, December 12 | 12am–12am

Elisabeth Lahti Library:

Get in the holiday spirit by taking home a diamond painting of a snowman to make. This event is for adults only. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Martin County Library System, Inc. Registration required. See comment section for links to registration.

8. Winter Family Fun Day

Wednesday, December 20 | 2pm–4pm

Hobe Sound Public Library:

Winter in Florida? Come join us for our second annual Winter Family Fun Day with a flurry of family fun full of games, crafts, snacks, and a festive photo booth. This year stop in to learn if the Pigeon got to drive the sleigh with a fun little tale. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Martin County Library System, Inc.

9. Family Place

Fridays, December 1, 8, 15 & 29 | 11am–12:15pm

Elisabeth Lahti Library:

This series encourages parents/caregivers to play with their child in a fun, educational setting. A local resource professional is available at each session to discuss parenting topics. After an hour of free play, gather for a short circle time with Miss Kelly, our Family Place coordinator, for songs, finger plays, and bubbles! Recommended for ages 0-4. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Martin County Library System, Inc.

10. Noon Year’s Eve Arts & Crafts

Saturday, December 30 | 11am–12pm

Join us for a fun-filled hour at the library where we will be having an arts and crafts event for Noon Year’s Eve! This program is for children, recommended for ages 10 and under. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Martin County Library System, Inc.

11. Take-and-Make: Winter Craft

Tuesday, December 5 | 10am–5pm

Hobe Sound Public Library:

Starting December 5, Hobe Sound Public Library will be offering a winter-themed kit you can pick up and do at home. While supplies last. Ages 3 and up. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Martin County Library System, Inc.

12. An Afternoon with the Grinch

Saturday, December 9 | 2pm–3pm

Hobe Sound Public Library:

We all know about the Grinch who lived in Whoville. But did you ever want to know more about him? Come join us here at the Hobe Sound Public Library as we learn more about the Grinch. There will be fun facts about the Grinch and fun crafts! This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Martin County Library System, Inc.

Do you want to build a snowman? Celebrate the holiday season by crafting your own clay creation. Join us at the Robert Morgade Library for holiday fun with polymer clay. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Martin County Library System, Inc.

15. Teen Cookie and Canvas Painting

Thursday, December 7 | 5pm–7pm

Blake Library:

Like painting with a twist, but instead with cookies! Teens can learn how to create a geometric 8-pointed star painting using free library resources that nourish your creativity while having some great snacks and drinks! Recommended ages 11-18.
