Episode 3: How I became a “Crazy Bird Lady.”

Episode 3: During one of the many quarantine periods we were forced to endure, I began to appreciate the fact that I had a real home. With a backyard & the possibilities were truly endless. I wasn’t happy being “dormant & idle” but decided that I really didn’t have a choice either. As I started to solidify my current position at work, I began to realize, a peaceful life was possible again. Even without the huge property & acreage.

So? I focused on what mattered most. My home, my daughter, our peace & our surroundings. Little by little I began introducing new things to the backyard. Whether that be yard art, plants, feeders or furniture.

Almost 95% of what I have obtained has been given to me, cuttings from friends & family’s plants, donated or purchased at a yard sale. Of course Amazon always comes into play!

In March of 2022, a neighbor in Rocky Point was making & selling nesting boxes – I saw his post on Facebook. I already had a few feeders in my yard & I thought, WOW! Imagine giving them someplace to nest as well! I had no clue what I was doing then. I was “winging” it. So? I got the nesting box & my neighbor helped me secure it about 14’ high on a lone pine tree.

That’s when things started to change….. In June of 2022 my grandmother made the decision to live on her own again, AT ALMOST 90! She moved into a semi assisted living facility – BUT? She could no longer watch the birds from her bedroom window. That weighed heavily on my heart.

One day I was scrolling through Facebook & saw an advertisement for a bird feeder camera. I was instantly paralyzed! I thought, OMG here is my chance to not only see the birds up close & personal? But so could she! AND without breaking the rules!!!!

So July in 2022 I purchased a bird feeder camera by Birdfy by Netvue. I had no idea that would be one of the best choices (and monetarily speaking the most I had spent in several years for a single purchase) and most lucrative ways to be me.

Immediately I began to get such amazing images & videos of all my backyard bird visitors. I had NO idea just what was truly here, IN MY OWN BACKYARD!!!! For about a year I began posting publicly on my own Facebook page about all of this. I was mesmerized by the beauty of it all & wanted to share with everyone I knew.
