68-year-old man jailed after Fort Pierce Police locate shopping cart with stolen mail

Fort Pierce, Fl- The Fort Pierce Police have reported that they arrested a 68-year-old man after finding his shopping cart with stolen mail.

Here are the details from the Ft. Pierce Police:

On December 13, 2023, Fort Pierce Police officers responded to the 2600 block of Sunrise Boulevard in reference to possible mail theft. Officers were told a man was seen pushing a cart, opening mailboxes and taking mail. Officers then observed a man matching the suspect’s description at the corner of Virginia Avenue and Sunrise Boulevard.

Officers spoke with the suspect, 68-year-old Leopold Ettienne, and observed a shopping cart containing mail from addresses on Sunrise Boulevard, Colonial Road, Citrus Avenue and Orange Avenue. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service was notified. They will review the case for federal prosecution and work to return the mail to its rightful owners. Ettienne was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the St. Lucie County Jail. He is currently charged with Larceny.
