St Lucie County will open emergency cold weather shelter starting Friday

St.Lucie County ,Fl –St Lucie County and the City of Fort Pierce will be operating a cold weather shelter this weekend.

Here are the details:

In partnership with St. Lucie County and the City of Fort Pierce, In the Image of Christ will be operating an emergency cold weather shelter this weekend at the Percy Peek Gym, located at 2902 Ave. D. 

The National Weather Service is estimating that temperatures across the Treasure Coast will drop to the low 40s with strong winds pushing the wind chill into the upper 30s beginning in the early morning of Saturday, Dec. 30. The emergency cold weather shelter at Percy Peek Gym will be open Friday, Dec. 29, Saturday, Dec. 30, Sunday, Dec. 31 from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily. If the temperature or wind chill remains at 48 degrees or below, the shelter will remain open throughout the day.

For individuals that need transportation to the temporary shelter, the Area Regional Transit (ART) will run their fixed routes in addition to circular pick-ups at Pinewood Park, 820 Sunrise Blvd. (South U.S. 1 across from Fort Pierce Police Department) and the Kilmer Branch Library, 101 Melody Lane between 3 and 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
