Fellsmere, Fl- The bank robber who had four different law enforcement agencies working together to catch him Thursday has been identified.
Here are the details from the Fellsmere Police:
iThink Financial robbery:
On January 25, 2024 at approximately 10:20 am, Fellsmere Police officers, along with Indian River County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to investigate an alarm at the iThink Financial bank located at 54 N. Broadway Street in Fellsmere.
While enroute to the alarm, IRCSO Dispatch confirmed the bank had just been robbed and the suspect was last seen by bank personnel running in an easterly direction. He ultimately left the area in a gray Mazda Miata.
While FPD remained at the scene to investigate and render aid if necessary, Indian River County Deputies located the suspect traveling south on I-95. Deputies pursued the suspect in to St. Lucie County and the chase ended when the suspect crashed with another vehicle near the intersection of South 13th Street and Georgia Avenue in Ft. Pierce.
The suspect was identified as David Abram Ziesel, age 44, of Port St. Lucie. Ziesel was transported to Lawnwood Hospital in Ft. Pierce for injuries he sustained in the crash and is in serious condition. What charges he will ultimately face in addition to robbery have yet to be determined.
According to bank personnel, Ziesel displayed no weapon during the robbery and no personnel were harmed during the incident. Ziesel demanded money be placed in a “pillow case” he brought with him and then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
FPD is in the process of securing a search warrant for the vehicle to document and collect any evidence.
Fellsmere Elementary School is located two blocks to the west of the Bank and school was in session at the time of the robbery. An IRCSO School Resource Deputy was on campus at the time and the school was placed in “lockdown” until the scene was secured.
During the investigation, FPD learned that Ziesel is currently on federal probation for robbing a bank in Oakwood Ohio in 2019. Federal authorities are aware of this incident.
