PSLPD Officer Tasers Dirt Bike Driver Fleeing from SLCSO Deputies
On April 20th, 2024, at about 3:00 pm, St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted to stop a dirt bike being operated by 25-year-old Reggie Cantarero, who was driving in a reckless fashion, even doing donuts around one of their marked traffic units.
The SLCSO Air Unit followed the dirt bike as Cantarero recklessly drove throughout Districts 3 and 4 of Port St. Lucie, driving into on-coming traffic, onto center medians, and doing donuts in several intersections within the city, placing the general public in danger.
At about 4:15 pm, a PSLPD sergeant was traveling westbound on SW Gatlin Blvd after turning from SW Bougainvillea Ave. The dirt bike was driving eastbound in the westbound direction and went head on towards the sergeant’s marked patrol SUV, causing the sergeant to take evasive action to avoid a crash.
The Air Unit advised the dirt bike pulled behind the Neighborhood Walmart, (3045 SW Port St Lucie Blvd), attempting to re-fuel after an unknown person staged a gas can for him. A PSLPD motor officer arrived on scene and gave Cantarero multiple commands to stop. Cantarero ignored the officer and tried to get back onto his dirt bike in order to flee again. The PSLPD motor officer deployed four Taser probes into Cantarero and he was taken into custody without further incident.
Cantarero was arrested and charged with the following charges from PSLPD: Fleeing and Eluding, Resisting without Violence, and Aggavated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer.
SLCSO also charged Cantarero with several charges, seized his dirt bike, and transported him to St Lucie County Jail.
Our message is clear: these types of willful, wanton, reckless, and unlawful actions will not be tolerated in the City of Port St. Lucie and a zero tolerance approach will be taken with any and all violators.
