Wrong-way driver collides with semi-truck in Palm City

Martin County, Fl -According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) the crash occurred on the Florida Turnpike, near Martin Downs Boulevard.

FHP says one of the men who was driving a 2017 GMC van had made a U-turn and began to travel southbound in the northbound lanes. FHP continues that the driver of the semi-truck was traveling on the inside lane heading north on Florida’s Turnpike.

The driver of the van continued in its direction causing a head-on collision with the semi-truck driver according to FHP.

The crash caused the driver of the van to be ejected from their vehicle. He was then taken to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital where they are in critical condition.

The driver of the semi-truck was taken to Cleveland Clinic Martin South Hospital where he is being treated for minor injuries.

Rapid Incident Scene Clearing (RISC) was sent out due to roadway debris and a fuel spill. Both vehicles were towed from the scene by TRI-County, FHP says.

According to Florida 511, the crash was cleared at around 1:46 p.m.
