Manatee Rescue in Manatee Pocket

Martin County, Fl- The Martin County Sheriff is reporting a Manatee was rescued in Manatee Pocket.

Here is the info from the Martin County Sheriff:

Some excellent rescue work today by MCSO’s Marine Unit and FWC as they worked to track an injured manatee.

FWC notified MCSO requesting assistance in locating the injured sea cow in the Manatee Pocket which appeared to have been hit by a boat propellor. Once the injured mammal was located, FWC along with their incredible bank of volunteers and rescue workers managed to maneuver it onto a boat and taken to Sandsprit Park. The manatee not only has a visible injury caused by a boat prop, but a medical problem with its lung as well.

FWC transported the gentle giant to Sea World in Orlando, where marine experts will begin the treatment and recovery process.
