Here are the details from the Port St. Lucie Police:

PSL Couple Arrested for Child Neglect

Yesterday at about 4 pm, PSLPD responded to the 1600 block of SE Burgundy Ln. in reference to a Department of Children and Families (DCF) investigation of alleged child neglect of four children ages 2 months old to 3 years old.

Officers found that a 2 year old child was trapped in a 2.5 ft. x 8 ft. closet with no light in the closet. The door to the closet had baby gates, dog gates, headboards, pieces of wood, and chairs tied together with bed sheets and belts blocking the closet door.

They also found a 2 month old newborn with severe diaper rash from the thigh to the lower back that required hospitalization. The investigation revealed the child had not seen a doctor since birth.

Two adults responsible for the children, 28 year old James Spiess and 27 year old Rebecca Worthington, were arrested and charged with two counts each of Child Neglect. Both are currently housed at the St. Lucie County Jail.

The remaining children were temporarily placed in the care of a responsible family member while DCF continues their investigation.
