Last night Hasan Minhaj from the Daily Show spoke at the #nerdprom.
Donald Trump did not go. Instead he he held a rally and denigrated the event like a five year old.
He said” A large group of Hollywood Actors (crowd boos) and Washington Media are consoling each other in a hotel ballroom in our nations capital right now.”
He reminded me of those people who were not invited somewhere so they are compelled to say nasty things about it. Only in this case he was invited and chose not to go.
Except that’s not what happened! There was no consoling and Donald Trump was not even missed!
The theme of the dinner was “Celebrating the First Amendment.” Now we all understand why Donald Trump didn’t want to go.
It actually turned out to be a great event. Woodward and Bernstein were also there.

Bernstein quoted a line from the movie version of “All the President’s Men,” based on their book about their Watergate investigation.
“When lying is combined with secrecy, there is usually a pretty good road map in front of us. Yes, follow the money, but follow the lies,” Bernstein said.
The end of Hasan’s speech had me in tears.
“I feel like I’m a tribute in ‘The Hunger Games,’ and if this goes poorly, Steve Bannon gets to eat me.” (lol)
He marveled how we live in a democracy where a first generation Indian-American Muslim can get on the White House correspondents’ dinner stage and make fun of the president.
“Even the president is not beyond the reach of the First Amendment. But the president didn’t show up because Donald Trump doesn’t care about free speech,” Minhaj said. “The man who tweets everything that enters his head refuses to acknowledges the amendment that allows him to do it.”
He said that in all likelihood, in a few hours, “Donald Trump will be tweeting about how bad Nicki Minaj bombed at this dinner.”
“That’s his right,” Minhaj said. “And I’m proud that all of us are here tonight to defend that right, even if the man in the White House never would.”
